Phlebotomist Certification

A phlebotomist is a member of a medical team working as clinical technician specifically trained to draw blood.  Phlebotomist Certification is the minimum qualification requirement for this work.  When you have acquired your Phlebotomist Certification, you will have the basic skills for an entry-level job as a Phlebotomist.  You will need to have a High School Certificate to apply for the Phlebotomist Certification course.

Phlebotomist Certification Training
The actual training consists of various theoretical topics such as:
*  anatomy and physiology
*  methods of drawing blood
*  aseptic techniques
*  safe waste disposal
*  blood tests, what is required for each, test tube color codes and solvents necessary for different tests
*  recording information, labeling samples, verifying identity
*  correct transportation of samples
*  communication and people skills
The practical side of the training will be done under supervision at a recognized training center.  You will be required to put into practice all you have learned theoretically.   At the end of the course, you will write an exam.  You will only get your Phlebotomist Certification once you pass this exam.

Options for Further Training and Upgrading Phlebotomist Certification
After Phlebotomist Certification, there are further training courses available so you can increase your knowledge and skills while improving your chances of promotion as a phlebotomist.  You will be taught in more detail about clinical procedures and further technologies.
If you are looking to acquiring the highest level of training as a phlebotomist, you will need to go for a Bachelor of Science Phlebotomy Technician degree course.  It is possible to do this course online, so you can study in your spare time.  Specific hands-on experience will be required at a certified teaching hospital.
